Rev. Dr. Jonathan L. Yates Biographical Sketch Dr. Jonathan L. Yates is a native Mobilian. He is the son of Mother Maggie Yates and the late Deacon Robert Yates, Sr. He is married to the former Doris Leslie of Theodore, Alabama for nearly 46 years. They are the proud parents of three sons, Jonathan Jr., who is in Marketing and Management; Durand, a Navy Veteran, who works in the Real Estate Division of the Corps of Engineers; and Judson, a licensed attorney in the state of Alabama; and one daughter, Leslie, who is in Planning and Design. Dr. Yates graduated from Murphy High School in 1971.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State University, Manhattan Kansas in 1973. He also attended the University of South Alabama, receiving a Master of Arts Degree in 1975. Further studies include Manhattan Bible College, Manhattan, Kansas; and California Graduate School of Theology, Glendale, California. He received a Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Alabama Interdenominational Seminary, Inc. in 1999. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
He was licensed to preach at the age of 16 and has been preaching for over 51 years. He has served as Pastor of the El Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Mobile, Alabama for 46 years. The church has grown tremendously under the vision and leadership of Pastor Yates, resulting in various ministries too numerous to name but including Transportation and Media ministries, and a Radio Broadcast ministry heard each Saturday morning at 10am on WGOK 660AM and 900AM. Dr. Yates served as President of the National Primitive Baptist Church School and Training Union Congress of the National Primitive Baptist Convention of America, Inc. for 12 years.
He is a dynamic and articulate Preacher, Teacher, Pastor, Evangelist, Prophet, Administrator, and Builder.
